Cancellation of Removal

One of the scariest experiences for an alien is to receive a Notice to Appear from the Department of Homeland Security. The NTA is a piece of paper, usually two pages, which starts the removal (formerly called deportation) case against the alien. Although it is basically a charge sheet as it outlines the alleged grounds for the alien’s removal, it is termed a Notice to Appear because it also contains an order for the alien to appear before the immigration judge.
